Protecting Tender Plants

I love cooking with fresh herbs as much as possible, but buying them can expensive. I also find that I end up tossing to many of them, they just don't last.

High desert gardening has many challenges any time of the year. All plants need fresh air and I have lost many plants trying to get them outside and back in before damaging weather. Here is a safe and easy answer to protecting plants in unfriendly weather.

I found 5 gallon water bottles that had leaks, my husband cut off the bottom making them a perfect hot house.

I will only put these plants outside when the temperatures are above 45 degrees. I wait for the sun to hit the deck, water the plants and cover until later afternoon.

I usually water bi-weekly. You may find that the smaller containers will need water weekly, this a perfect place to use ice cubes.
