Water Saving Tip #1 Over Planted Landscapes

I have always considered water needs when it come to new plantings. You may have also noticed that the topic is in most of my postings. I think it is now time to give you some specific things to consider when planning and caring for your yard.

You can see in the photo to the right that someone planted 4 rose of sharon in an area where 2 would have worked. There were 5, I took one out so we could use the walkway. These shrubs will compete for nutrients and water, not to mention not being able to grow to their natural size.

These photos are the before and after shots of one side of my back yard. It was not pruned in years, and there were way to many plants as well. I found some of my favorite woody shrubs Caryoprtris, they are looking great. The lawn is also much happier with more sun and proper watering.

Here are things to do before buying plants:
Read the tag for mature size
Make sure the area you will be planting is big enough for the plant
Read the tag for light requirements
Making sure the plant fits the area will create less pruning
