Topic 1 Planning Ahead Saves Time

As I promised in my previous blog this is the first of 3 maybe 4 blogs that may help keep you from the winter gardening blues and get you ready for spring gardening.
Planning Ahead Saves Time
A few seasons ago while I was still living 25 miles out of town I found myself so excited about the amazing spring day I could hardly wait to grab a cup of coffee and head outside. I wanted to mulch and clean; only problem was I had nothing to mulch with. By the time I got home the emotion for gardening wasn’t the same.
Here’s how I hope to never ended up in that predicament.
Buy your mulch, potting soils and any other gardening ‘stuff’ you think you might need now, you won’t be sorry.

I store the bags of soil and amendments in a large plastic container covering with rugs to keep them comfortable.
Having these supplies easy to grab and move about is also helpful. Keep the area clean and a garden cart at the ready to get the bags easily available.
Sharpen Tools Now
It is so annoying when heading out to prune and your tools are dull, leaving a shredded limb. It is unhealthy for the plant and makes more work.
Don't forget shovels, hula hoes and hoes, like storing in supplies sharpening tools now will save time later.
Check Hoses and Watering Supplies
We will start to see new growth as early as late February to early March in the garden. Spring blooming bulbs and some perennials and shrubs will be growing and blooming.
This is usually too early to turn on your irrigation system, so hand watering is the best and safest way to keep them healthy and happy.
Check to make sure you have a good water wand with rubber washers.
