Fall Planting and Transplanting 2013

Nine bark in container
Headed out on this beautiful September day to move my tender Geraniums in for the winter, but the weather encouraged me to transplant a couple of shrubs first. I can move the Geraniums later today. I had planted these two Dart's Gold Nine Bark in the spring and they took off, so keeping them from getting root bound I moved them to the back garden. (See before and after photos below)

The weather is perfect for planting or transplanting. The soil is warm and we still have enough time for the plant to start to root in before winter. Here are a few things to help your plants root in.

Hole ready, note emitters are set up
1. Dig hole and amend with something organic, do not
fertilizer, but feed the soil with some style of compost. This way the newly growing roots will have nutrients.

2. Set up drip emitters, yes even though we will shouting our systems down soon do it now. This way you won't have to think about in the spring.

3. Make sure the new hole is moist and water in well after planting.
