Watering and Spring Rain in the High Desert

Spring showers in the high desert are a real blessing, but they can also confuse some gardeners. Do I turn off my water system or not? It is almost impossible to over water in most areas where I live, but there are some areas with clay or hard pack soils that hold on to the water better than sandy areas like mine. This is why I encourage you to know how fast or slow your water moves through your soil.
If we are lucky enough to get a nice drenching rain a few days in a row then by all means turn off your system. It is always best to save water, always otherwise water as needed to keep your plants healthy.
