Seed Starting Season 2015 Has Begun!
Seed Starting has begun! I finally found all of my tools, trays and peat pellets for seed starting. Thought it might be a good time to point out a few things that will help you be successful.
1. I use distilled water in my trays. This way I know that there is less salts and the pH balance is just right for seeds. My trays are several years old and what I love about them is the water holding capabilities that will keep the absorption pad moist under the peat pellets.
2. You see that I have only used every other spot. This is because I will let my plants get to a good size before moving them out and I want them to have plenty of room to grow. The other reason is I only feed Robin and me, so I don’t need that many plants. Only plant what you are going to eat or give away.
3. Heater pads are very important when starting seeds. The soil medium should be a good consistent temperature to germinate. I keep our home on the cool side, this way I make sure the pellets will stay close to 60 degrees'. Once the plant has leaves and puts on growth I will get rid of the heat pad.
