Poinsettias
This cold sensitive plant is one of the most recognized plant used for holiday decorating, and it can be a bit of a challenge. Here are some things that will help.
- Place your plant where the temperatures stay 60° to 68° as best possible. You will also need to keep them from direct heater vents and any cold and drafty areas.
- Water regularly, which can be about once a week.
- Ice cube water is perfect for this plant, place ice cubes 2 to 3 inches apart all the way around the top of the soil weekly.
- One of the benefits is that the ice melts slow enough helping the plant use the water correctly, and you won’t have puddles of water on your counter or furniture.
Amaryllis
You will need to start them now for blooms at the Christmas table.
You should easily find them as a kit, but if not plant in a quality potting soil in a nice container. Make sure the soil is moist, and water regularly.
Place is an area will good light and wait for a beautiful large bloom.
Fresh Cut Trees
There is nothing more important
than making sure you fresh cut tree is properly set up for a safe and long
lasting decorated tree.
·
Find a tree that when you pull on the limbs the needles they stay on.
·
Set up the tree stand, one that holds 2 or more gallons of water;
fill half way.
·
Get a towel that has been soaked in water at the ready.
· Make a fresh cut, and immediately wrap the
wet towel on the end of your tree.
·
Place into the stand, and set it where it will remain, lock down
and fill water reserve.
·
CHECK THE WATER RESERVE EVERY 24 HOURS. The fresh cut you made
will let the tree take in a large amount of water keeping your tree fresher longer.
Once you bring these decorations
home I would recommend that you spray with water, and if you have it spray with
Cloud Cover or any other anti-transparent. This is the best way to keep them
fresh longer.
